At the URJ, our chief concern is for the safety, health, and well-being of the participants and staff of our programs. As such, as part of our normal due diligence, we continue to closely monitor the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), and our leaders are in close communication with leading public health officials and medical authorities, both locally and globally.
Based on their recommendations, and in keeping with decisions made by organizations similar to ours, we’re writing today with an important update amid this rapidly evolving situation.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel plans to host NFTY SOCAL Elections & Chesed Kallah (3.13-15) and URJ Camp Newman's Shabbat Open House events (3.13 & 3.27).
We share in your disappointment about not being able to attend this much-anticipated event, and we thank you for your understanding during a time of unprecedented vigilance. Going forward, we will continue to monitor the situation and will be in contact, as appropriate.
Our NFTY teen leaders, with their adult partners, are planning online/video programming for the weekend since we will not be able to gather in person. We look forward to being in touch shortly with that information. In addition, we would like to share this blog by Maya Levy, our NFTY North American President, where she reflects on how teens can navigate these complicated times.
Please use this form to let us know how you would like us to handle your payment for this event. We are happy to refund your payment or to issue you a credit for a future URJ event. The URJ, however, will still incur significant event costs that we are unable to recoup in the face of the termination of this event. Will you consider turning your deposit into a donation? Doing so will go a long way in helping to offset these remaining expenses.
Together, we pray for an end to the spread of the virus and for a full recovery of those who are sick. We look forward to gathering soon, either virtually or in person, to continue to create the transformative connections at the core of our Reform Jewish movement. Rachel Dubowe, NFTY SOCAL Regional Advisor, will be in touch shortly with information about connecting virtually and this year's elections for regional board, which will still take place this weekend.
We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and will be in touch with news about Spring Kallah (April 24-26) and information about this coming summer at URJ Camp Newman.
