Nashir Los Angeles: Teen Songleading Seminar

Hosted by NFTY Southern California and University Synagogue

Join with other teen songleaders for a weekend of training, skill development and hands on learning! Participate in intensive workshops, small-group specialty focused electives, individual evaluation and a musical Shabbat experience.

Jewish music is a cornerstone of the Reform Jewish movement. Return home with a skill set that will enable you to take advantage of the songleading opportunities at your Temple, Religious School, Youth Group and in NFTY.

  • Learn how to effectively teach a song
  • Work collaboratively in a team (songleading team, Religious School staff, NFTY region, etc.)
  • Songlead at a Worship Service, Religious School, Youth Group Event
  • Teach early childhood music
  • Plan for a service, song session, Religious school year music program
  • Learn new melodies and be introduced to old favorites
  • Share best practices to continue their growth as a songleader after the program concludes

This is a North American NFTY program open to any Jewish high school student.

Travel fees to Los Angeles are not included in the price of the event.

Please be sure to book air travel in and out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) only. Your flight should arrive no later than 2:30pm on Friday, February 23 and depart no earlier than 3:00pm on Sunday, February 25.

Transportation to and from Los Angeles International Airport will be provided for teens who travel within the travel parameters listed above. Participants who arrive to any other airport will need to arrange their own transportation to University Synagogue at their own cost.

Those driving should arrive at University Synagogue at 4:30pm on Friday, February 23rd in order to practice for the Shabbat Tefillah experience. Please plan to be picked up at University Synagogue at 12:30pm on Sunday, February 25th.

Participants will receive a pre-event phone call within 1-2 weeks of the event. Participant Families will receive a pre-event email within 1-2 weeks of the event. These confirmations include finalized travel information, packing list, contact information and other important event details.

A packing list will be emailed within two weeks of the event.

If you need to cancel, the registration fees you paid will be refunded as follows:

Through January 25, 2018 – 90%
Through February 1, 2018 – 75%
Through February 8, 2018 – 50%

After February 8, 2018 we will not be able to issue any refunds for cancellation. If you have a documented medical emergency and must cancel after February 8, 2018 you will be refunded 75% of the registration fees you paid. Please note that we cannot offer credits in exchange of refunds.

All cancellation must be in writing. We will accept cancellations by email to We’re sorry, but we cannot accept cancellations over the phone. Please allow up to six weeks after the conclusion of the event for your refund to be processed.
